LITERATURE

As a way to educate parents and interested adults about adolescent depression, SPEA has established a Speaker’s Bureau. The Recognizing Adolescent Depression and Suicide Prevention program is designed for PTO and other parent and community groups.

Do you know how to tell the difference between normal
adolescent moodiness and major depression?

Do you know what to do if someone is having thoughts of suicide or has a plan to die by suicide?

During 2003-2004, the suicide rate for persons aged 10-24 rose 8%, the largest single increase in 14 years. The largest increase in suicide numbers and percentages was seen for girls aged 10-14 years (75.9% increase).
