ABOUT SPEA |
What does SPEA do? Suicide is preventable. Its causes are treatable. Friends are the first line of defense in preventing suicide among teens. Since December 2000 we have delivered our signature program, Recognizing Adolescent Depression and Suicide Prevention, to 30,000 students in 52 schools. We teach students how to identify friends who may be suffering from major depression and/or may be at risk of suicide; how to respond; and where to refer. Our objective is to cause at-risk students to seek the help of a mental health professional. Five percent of the students who participate in our program seek the help of a mental health professional. In addition, we have trained more than 5,000 physicians, school counselors, social workers, nurses, clergy, teachers, home health aides, law enforcement officers and parents in recognizing adolescent depression and suicide prevention. We host an annual workshop for Survivors of Suicide. |
In most cases, the depression that so often precedes suicide is both recognizable and treatable. In Cuyahoga County In Geauga County In Summit County In Lake County In Lorain County In Medina County In Portage County IN CRISIS SI USTED ESTÁ PENSANDO EN |
